India’s 10 wicket defeats: In the last ODI match played against Australia in Visakhapatnam, the Indian team had to face defeat by 10 wickets. Here Team India was all out after scoring just 117 runs and after that the Australian opening pair chased down the target in just 11 overs without losing any wicket. That is, the Kangaroo team had won the match with 234 balls remaining. It was India’s most embarrassing defeat in ODI cricket. The Indian team usually never loses so badly.
In 1974, the Indian team played the first ODI match. Since then, this is only the sixth time in these 49 years of ODI cricket history of the Indian team that India has lost by 10 wickets. However, in all these 6 defeats, the worst defeat was received in Visakhapatnam only because in this match the Kangaroo team won the match with 39 overs remaining. - For the first time on January 10, 1981, the Indian team got defeated by 10 wickets in ODI cricket. The match played in Melbourne in the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup was reduced to 34-34 overs due to rain. Here the Indian team scored 112 runs losing 9 wickets, in response the Kiwi opening pair gave an unbeaten partnership of 113 runs in 29 overs to win New Zealand.
- On 5 March 1997, the Indian team lost by 10 wickets for the second time. In this match played against the West Indies in Bridgetown, the Indian team scored 199 runs losing 7 wickets. Here Stuart Williams and Chanderpaul scored 200 runs in 44.4 overs to give the Windies team a 10-wicket win.
- On March 22, 2000, once again the Indian team lost by 10 wickets. This time the Proteas team gave a humiliating defeat to India. This match was played in Sharjah. Team India got all out for 164 runs here. Proteas opening pair Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs defeated India in 29.2 overs.
- On 25 November 2005, South Africa again defeated India by 10 wickets. This time the Proteas bowlers bundled out the Indian team for 188 in the ODI match at Kolkata. Steve Smith and Andrew Hall easily defeated India by sharing a 189-run partnership for the first wicket.
- In the ODI match held on 14 January 2020 in Mumbai, the Australia team defeated India by 10 wickets. Team India scored 255 runs in this match, but Warner and Finch scored centuries in a hurry to defeat India by 10 wickets here.
